Generally, the sunsets in Hilo, Hawaii are not especially colorful. Mauna Kea blocks the view of the western horizon, giving Kona the best sunset views. However, Hilo recently enjoyed an exception to this rule, treating residents to perhaps the most beautiful sunset that I have ever seen. I took several great photos of the sunset. This one uses my camera’s panoramic mode, showing Mauna Kea and the telescopes on the left and the road extending up the Hamakua Coast on the right. The sky was filled with amazing shades of purple, red and pink that night, and I’m looking forward to posting more of the photos that I took. It seems a fitting end to my time on the Big Island.
